Is Eisenia Hortensis the earthworm I'm finding in my garden in Western New York? That's what my spotted salamanders like, and are mostly rejecting red wigglers and Canadian Nightcrawlers. Too much snow now for finding worms lol.
This is one of my little cuties.
Thanks!

I did a quick search and Lumbricus terrestris is supposed to be the most common worm found. I am in western CT and have been wondering the same thing.

I can't answer your worm question. I did want to tell you that my axolotls wouldn't eat live worms. They will eat, without hesitation, worms that have been blanched in hot water. The slim secretions get removed and the "taste" seems to improve. Mine also won't eat a worm whole but in 1 1/2- 2 inch pieces. Mine prefer nightcrawlers over red wigglers.

Thanks for your replies! For dinner reason I no longer get notifications from Tapatalk. I'll take a look for that you're, I wonder if anyone sells cultures...
Tonight my Sals had crickets for the second time, it's quite obvious they like them MUCH more than worms. They'd never had a problem with the worms before, but we moved them into a large tank (out of their paper towel lined "cribs") and had to switch to Red wigglers at about the same time. We've cut them up, offered then whole, etc. Maybe I'll try cooking them (yuck). Tusks again!

I *think* that Octolasion tyrtaeum is what is in our garden, small, pale colored, stripey, mid-range soil.

If anyone cultures them, I'd love to hear from you...
