Worried: Weird Redness of Tail

Hello: I have two lovely axolotls in my tank, and everything has been going well for the past couple of months they've been in there. They both have good appetites, are active, no unusual behavior. However, the last week or so I noticed that both of them seemed to have had a redness in their tail. I immediately checked my parameters and found that the nitrates were way, way too high. I spent a week bringing it back down to normal and invested in Purigen... However, they still have a redness in their tail and I'm worrying. It may be nothing, but if it's something I'd love to know early so I can have more time to help them. So, I'll attach a couple of pictures and it would mean so much if you guys had any input. Thank you.

I'm also noticing these little dots on Norbert... I don't see any on Sheldon, though. I'm slightly worried about septicemia, is that something I should be worried about right now? Or am I being a worry wort?

The dots on your golden are just pigment..irridophores....and normal.the other leucistic one will have different pigment genes. They look sooooooo beautiful. Regarding the reddish tails......I see this in mine sometimes....just keep an eye on your ammonia levels.

The dots are normal. With the redness of the tail, have you noticed the tail becomes more red after being active or becomes less red if they have been resting? If so, it is likely normal with increased blood flow whilst active. Otherwise, monitor parameters closely.

I notice now that their tails do seem to be paler when I presume they are sleeping or resting. I'll make sure to keep checking on my parameters, though. It's funny how attached you can get to a couple of little slime-balls Thank you guys!!
