has anyone tried this filter? it's a canister type for for "turtles and reptiles" that is good up to 30 gallons. i just bought one and it has ceramic and carbon filtering. it was 45 bucks at Petsmart so i thought "why not". it seems pretty good so far. anyone else try one or have one?

Hi Chris,
It's a nice little filter. One problem is when the power goes off it tends to loose suction and needs restarted. The power went off for 2 minutes this week and mine finally was done for. I replaced it with a Whisper internal filter. They come in 3 different sizes. They start right up after a power outage. I want to experiment a little with using other media in the whispers to make them a little more biologically enhanced. I intend to replace all of my filters with ones that will automatically restart after a short power outage.
I did like the 501 when it worked.

I have a zoomed 501 and find it works great for my axolotls
