EMERGENCY, NEED HELP BADLY, IN PORTLAND OREGON IF YOU ARE LOCAL:

I need help, badly. I've been in the process of moving hell for the last 2 weeks, while this has been going on Harry got sicker...he had stopped eating almost 6 weeks ago now...
I had had a nitrate spike but he was the only one effected...looked like ammonia burns at first, red blotches shriveled gills and such so I moved him to an tub und er the air conditioner and put in an airstone. He didn't get better so I resorted to the fridge...
He has been in the fridge in spring water since the 19th (there had been ammonia in my tap water), and he is worse. Tried a salt bath a few days ago and couldn't handle watching him thrash in it so I took him out after 5 minutes...I'm at a loss for what to do. Heck if anyone is in the portland area, I'd even be happy for someone to come look at him as I fear he is going to die, hasn't eaten in a month either.
I desperately need help.

One gill stalk has gone white, but not with fuzz. It's just white and the stalks are white and filaments too...
I tried a dash of prazipro in a quick bath when changing the fridge tub in case the white has been flukes...I'm devistatedd and exhausted and desperate for help.

Any ideas on what to do or what is going on?

I believe im dealing with the same problem. I have two axolotls and there is only one experiencing the same issue. It started almost two weeks ago. He wont eat, has been in the fridge, and has been getting salt baths. He doesn't seem to be getting any better /: He has partially white gills, looks like theres a little bit of blood in the water, and his filaments are coming off too. Hes not very active and im really worried. Does yours look similar to this? I know its not the best picture but uou get the idea uploadfromtaptalk1411613490881.jpg

Its so sad ): I took some better pictures. But to upload them you press the plus sign to the left of where you type. Then youll be brought to a screen where you only see your own typing. After that press the paper clip icon, then select your camera or your albums if you already have pictures.uploadfromtaptalk1411615232920.jpg

To upload pictures go on advanced and put them up as attached files.

Any specific reason why you are doing salt baths? I've only read of salt baths for things like fungus. If the axolotl skin is irritated, indian almond leaves or a tea bath might be a better option. Also an axolotl kept in the fridge will not eat as it is too cold, I believe you'll need to let them warm up a bit first. I would do a bit more research as I'm not experienced in fridging.

Still not letting me post pics.
Do you know if I can use Indian almond leaves while fridging?

Do you know if I can use Indian almond leaves while fridging?

Yes, but it takes a little while for the leaves to start leaking all the good things into the water. So you could put a leaf in a bottle of water and then use that water for water changes.

I wouldn't do salt baths unless you're sure there's fungus on him. It will just irritate his skin more.

Have you tested the water to make sure there's nothing wrong with it? Do you know if any fish store near you offers more thorough testing than just the normal nitrates, nitrites etc.? Just incase there's something else wrong with the water. What kind of water conditioner do you use? Those that contain aloe have been suspected to cause irritation.

If it has been going on for a while or seems to be getting worse, I'd suggest trying to find a vet that deals with herps.

Red Leg, how do I treat, need help asap!!

So I'm pretty sure my axolotl has red leg, and I need to know how to treat, asap.
What can I do, as I don't have access to an axolotl vet in portland oregon.

He has been sick and fridged for weeks and getting worse. Red blotches everywhere legs gone red. I need help and am beside myself.

Al the basic treatments have been done, water is perfect, using almond leaves.

Please don't let my darling Harry die.

Re: Red Leg, how do I treat, need help asap!!

You'll need antibiotics and for that you'll need to find a vet. Even if there aren't any exotic vets around you, you can get another vet to call someone who knows axolotls. The antibiotics might also have to be injected and that should be done by a vet unless you're experienced in that.

Re: Red Leg, how do I treat, need help asap!!

From axolotl.org :
Treatment for most bacterial problems is best left to an expert, but the hobbyist has some means at his or her disposal. Obviously, changing the water is a good idea, but 100% Holtfreter's solution can also help to reduce bacterial numbers in the water and to aid osmo-regulation in effected animals. Antibiotics can be used in axolotls and the the most reliable form of antibiotic delivery is by injection, but this should usually be left to an expert.

Re: Red Leg, how do I treat, need help asap!!

Sorry for so many posts, but check this out if you haven't found a vet yet. Looking for a vet?

Found a vet that treats axolotls, he is on injectable antibiotics for two weeks, I'm hoping he pulls through
,

He has no gills left??? I was gone for 4 hours, and no gills... what the hell

I'm glad you found a vet and sorry about the gills. Perhaps you could call the vet and ask if he has any idea what it could be.

So, i lost my Harry last week...and have been grieving pretty hard. Fed my guys last night and tested the water and now, another two have Blisters that look to be filled with puss... I can't get a break.

Sorry for your loss. :(

I think you should take the axies to a vet asap, so that they can get treatment as early as possible. And let the vet know what happened to the first axie if you haven't talked to him yet. Did the vet know what was wrong with the first axie? Might be good to sterilize the tank too in case it's something that could be living in there. Though that would mean you need to cycle it again.
