i feel like this is a good idea but should i replace the dirt with sand? also should there be a filter for it and a air pump?
 
Honestly I don't know if this would work but it might you would probably have to keep the water colder though and it depends where you live and I don't know much about axolotls but it's worth a shot you never know you know it would be cool though as if you got like a big 100 gallon tank or an indoor pond and you could do it that way

where i live its usually on the colder side
 
That might be okay but you might have a little bit of trouble you could do a big 100 gallon though inside and have a bunch of them in it I think that would look cool but I don't know
 
Outdoors or indoors? I have an indoor pond for them, and it's been working well for 15+ years.
