Congratulations Morg! I take it you keep the males together with the females outdoors? Your comment made me think perhaps you treat the males differently.

I can't wait to own a large garden where I can house my own Salamandra experiments - mwahahaha!!

I've just returned from France where the wild terrestris larvae are already colouring up and morphing.

sorry for not being clearer, yes I do keep males and female together in the enclosure.
I dont have a large garden, in fact its quite small, but in the space i manage to fit in 3 small ponds, numerous outdoor raising tubs , and the outdoor enclosure, not forgetting my old coal shed which is now a year round home to my Bufo americanus lol.

Could you post some photos of the set ups?. I am toying with some sort of outside enclosure here.

they are eating like pigs and developing well

Good work mate!
You take to eat and how to keep these young salamandrs and metamorphosed?
Greetings.

terrestris started giving birth again last night months earlier than last year
only 10 overnight, but if last year is anything to go by there may be plenty more to come

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
