    Unexpected goodies

I've got a compost heap and a compost bin. One day we had some left over cauliflower which was already boiled. We put it in the bin. One day later I wanted to throw in some coffee grindings and I saw that the cauliflower was covered with black springtails. I picked up the pieces of cauliflower...

    Alternative method L.laoensis

I've been experimenting with L.laoensis eggs and larvae, just like I did with P.deloustali last year. I don't like "sterile" methods, so I wanted to try raising P. deloustali in pond water while feeding Daphnia. I lost animals in a later stage and on land however. In a later stage, because I...

    First three open newt tanks

Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeG_3RC5zls&feature=youtu.be Still five to go, but the first three open tanks are running a couple of weeks now and doing well. Made the backgrounds myself. This time the pumps are behind the backgrounds instead of hidden in the substrate. Apart from that I used...

New "open" tank with selfmade background for Tylototriton verrucosus.

Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD6Fuv34WVw&feature=youtu.be I need to add more plants, but this was all I've got to spare at this moment. This tanks is escape free, though I haven't tested it with larger newts like my P.deloustali. Made the background using the following method...

    Bufo Mania

Yes I know, there is an overabundance of groups about caudates and anurans, but I haven't found a group especially for Bufo species yet. There's an old Chinese saying that there never can be enough facebook groups about amfibians, so I made this one for all you Bufo loving mad (wo)men out...

Vivarium build for Gastrhotheca riobambae (sorry not a newt tank this time)

I’ve descided to give my Gastrotheca riobambae juveniles a new viv. Normally I would use fern root and turf grounds to aply onto a background by mixing it with a concrete binder adhesive (like Flevopol). Mix it until it’s like clay and put a descent layer onto the background, which I usually...

Does anybody have pictures of Tylototriton daweishanensis?

I would really want to see pictures of Tylototriton daweishanensis. When I got 4 animals a couple of years ago I thought all of them to be T. yangi (they were still called T.cf.kweichowensis at that time). One of them has always been smaller and had less orange colours than the others. Someone...

    Comparing 2 T.verrucosus strains

Aaron (Mr. Cyclone) has given me some eggs of his T.verrucosus. They're from the strain which John got from Ummi. When they hatched I've had some eggs from my own animals hatched as well. There were less than 12 hours in between these two strains hatching. Because I could now resemble the...

    Pretty light coloured T.verrucosus larva

Definitily not a leucistic, but it's really light compared to all other T.verrucosus animals I've seen so far:

Facebook group for anuran keeping caudata enthusiasts....

There's a new group especially for salamander and newt keepers who like to show some pics of there anurans to other caudata keepers without getting comments about the fact that it's not a salamander of a newt. That's why there's a new facebook group next to the group we already knew (salamanders...

    Viridescens or louisianensis?

I know that most import of Notophthalmus to Europe is louisianensis. I've read that you can tell louisianensis apart from N.v.viridescens if they're efts don't turn bright red and when their red spots are inclompletely ringed with black. I've been told that my animals are louisianensis, but I...

Going to Albenga/Alassio Italy. Any herping?

My gf and I are going to Albenga this summer. I've been there a couple of times and I've made a couple of trips myself, but apart from invertebrates I've never seen many reptiles or amphibians. Does anyone have tips for me? Maybe you want to go yourself and don't mind me joining you. :D These...

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
