The most incredible thing happened today.

3 months ago our female T. Marm managed to escape from what we thought was an escape-proof vivarium. We looked everywhere - laid down wet towels for over a week, turned our newt room inside out and upside down on at least 3 different occasions, took apart the rest of the basement looking for her - and nothing. Finally we gave up. 3 months went by. Then, just an hour ago, we found her sitting next to the newt room door - alive! She was a little dusty, but otherwise appears no worse for wear, and is even still rather fat! Our little holiday miracle!

After some checking we see that she escaped on July 23, 2012, so she was lost in the basement for 146 days!

Must've been some good grub lurking around down there! She looks great for a refugee!

That's awesome. Maybe it was really abducted by aliens and they finally brought your newt back:ufo:

Apparently she had taken it upon herself to rid our basement of insects and worm bin escapees! I think she's fatter now than when she escaped.

I can't help but feel as though the stars have aligned in my little girl's favour, because - in addition to surviving her ordeal - she just made "Miss July" in the calendar! :)

What a miracle indeed! Thats so great that she managed to stay so healthy looking after all this time! And what a lovely colour she is : )!

Looks great! God I love marms.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
