I work with 3 anderson salamanders, two males and one female. Currently the female is not eating and hasn't eaten for around 2 weeks. Visibly, she hasn't lost any weight and she has no obvious health issues. We test our water weekly, all parameters seem good. 25% water change every 2 weeks. Temperate is roughly 18 degrees celcius daily. The only thing we can think of is she may have eaten a small floating plant we had in the tank (has now been removed). How would i know if she has a blockage, how do we get rid of any blockage? Could anyone help with methods to try and get her to eat again?

A late response, hopefully your problem has already been solved. Not eating for two weeks at a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius is no problem. A blockage seems unlikely to me. They are able to empty their stomachs themselves. This happens when the food is not digested properly or after eating aquatic snails.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
