Illness/Sickness: Axolotl Bleeding

Nitrite is 0
Nitrate is 0
Ammonia is .25
pH is 8.2, but I have the high range test kit
Temp is 74 degrees

I would be tempted to try and drop the temperature of your tank by a few degrees - either with ice bottles or a fan, then put him back in the tank.

I think he is between the devil and the deep blue sea at the moment, whilst his tank may still be cycling, being in a small tub for long periods having daily water changes is incredibly stressful.

Provided you are dilligent with your water changes and keep a close eye on your ammonia levels and temperature you can cycle your tank with your Axololt in situ - I have done it myself.

I think he needs to get into a stable routine, once that happens he should hopefully get his appetite back.

now he's floating!

i can get him to go to the bottom of the container, but he just floats right back up.

What's going on?

Should i just put the water bottles in the tank, return him to it and hope for the best?

I put three water bottles in the tank, waited for the temp to go down a little, then I put him back in.

He floated for a while, swam to the bottom and went into one of the hides.

Here's to hoping that he eats soon.

Aww no, so sorry for your loss :(
*Hugs* You did everything you could to help him.

:( sorry to hear that

You tried your best.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
