I am going to be nit-picky for a minute here and point out that above you stated that you had frequently seen Aeromonas infections in amphibians and then below you state that you had Pseudomonads identified. Can you clarify this apparent discrepancy?

The recent references I can find for bacterial infections causing "gastric distensions" have been clarified in more recent literature and are consistent with what is called "bloat" by hobbyists (Amphibian Medicine and Captive Husbandry, 2001, Krieger Press).

Pseudomonad infection is generally considered to be indicative of red-leg infection and one of the (many)symptoms of red-leg is fluid rentention which can cause bloating either subcutaneously or in the body cavity itself.

Documentation of gas production in the digetive tract may be an artifact of post-mortum bacterial activity by gut flora.
