Cypress Mulch?

I have a huge bag of cypress mulch I use for my snakes. Is that OK for fire salamanders and how moist do you usually make it. I was thinking to make it more moist at bottom, medium moist in middle and relatively dry on top with some cork bark hides one with more moisture than the other under it, so they can dig to the preferred moisture level?
 
Don't use it, it's not only toxic to them, it's also way too rough and can damage their delicate skins. They need soft substrates like a loose organic compost.
 
Thanks for the reply, I saw it in time not to add it. Perhaps the article should be updated here? I couldn't find any top soil that didn't have peat so I just have the coco brick stuff in there for now.
