Eggs from my Tylototriton shanjing

A few days ago I found some eggs of my Tylototriton shanjing, some eggs have already hatched and I found yesterday about 20 more eggs, in total I have around 50 eggs now. 6 Eggs have already hatched and I hope more will hatch soon to. The adults are captive bred in 2008 and these eggs are the F2 generation.

The tank is 50x50x60 ,I moved them to this set up about 5 months ago and from the start they already liked it a lot. The adults are rather agressive as they try to bite in my finger when I feed them by hand.

If everything goes well I will probably sell some, but I am not sure if I will sell them outside the Netherlands.

I'm just wondering if you let the fry hatch in the tank and then took them out or if you had some other routine.I've just found eggs and like yours, they are on a big chunk of wood and glued rocks...mostly stuff I can't or don't want to take out of the tank. How are the litttle ones doing and how are you raising them?

I took the wood where the eggs where glued to out of the terrarium and I putted it in an aquarium. If the eggs where laid just above the water level I putted them in the aquarium just above the water level. I have about 27 still alive and they eat and grow very well in the aquarium that I have placed in the livingroom.

I may consider moving the wood but really don't want to disrupt the tank.The newts are so happy. I was looking at your tank again..do the shanjing use that bark to get in and out of the water? The glass looks so steep!

They only use the bark to get out of it and there has never been an problem with it. The glass stands straight up so the only thing they use is the bark and they enjoy to hang around on the bark at night.

Yesterday I discoverd at least 40 new shanjing eggs From the first group 8 are already on land.

The latest eggs are developing well and only 4 of them where unfertile

In total 17 are on land now and there are still a few larvae from the first group.

Shanjinglings are the best!!!!!! I had some I was taking care of lay in 2006 (F1 - as they were at a zoo that had some confiscated ones from 1996). They laid on damp wood and moss where the tank had leaked through. Very few if any were laid in the water. Those that were in the water were removed and put in a tank and the others were left and misted. I think your set-up seems perfect for breeding. What are you feeding the larva and juveniles?

I feed the larva small wild caught daphnia and as they grow bigger I start to feed them tubifex worms. They do really great on that food. I feed the juveniles small crickets, but when they are a bit bigger I start to feed them chopped earthworms.
