I have noticed that one of my Gigliolli looks like he has hiccpus, has anyone else seen this before or could someone explainewhat it is.

What do you mean by 'hiccups'? Salamanders perform buccal respirations, which the underside of their jaw/throat pumps in and out. Is this to which you are referring?

Yep my fire salamanders do this after eating quite a bit. Its nothing that I have seen to worry about.

Thanks for your replys, the hiccups happend after my salamander had just ate a big worm, so looks like that what it could be cheers

Hi Matt
i think they swallow air when they eat large prey items and they seem to have to burp a bit when they have finished and that is what you are seeing.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
