So ive been dealing with what i thought has been fungus on the gills for quite some time. four of my axies got it. it takes over their gills and takes them off quick.. i dont think its fungus due to the fact that its not fluffy cotton. its really dense whitish yellow. it has also affected a few of them on the mouth area.. taking their lips off. ive been doing salt baths which seems to clear it up but it keeps comming back.. one of my axies has zero gills now. they eat plenty and are hella active. ive have them all pretty much separted. i have a 75 gal tank with a fluvel fx5 (turned way down). my water params.. nitrate 5-10. ammonia and nitrite unreadable.. nuetral ph. cold water.. ive heard maybe gill flukes? but the lips and mouth? ill try and get pics up... i really dont have a vet to go to.. or money... and takin an axie to a vet seems a lil overkill

How long do you do the salt baths for? If it is fungus, you need to keep the salt baths up for two to three days after you think the fungus has cleared, just to make extra sure. Pictures would be helpful, definitely.

The salt baths i do for 15 mins. every other day. and of course they are now showing no signs of this gross... whatever it is. i was thinking maybe tea leaves, for that they show no signs of anything.. so the mouth and gill injury will be ok. i would post pics but like i said all the injuries look nice and clean. just imagine a lotl with no gills. then theyll grow back.. then get sick again. i dont get it

As stated above, a salt bath needs to be carried out twice a day until the fungus dissapears, then carried on for two or three days afterwards to stop any recurrence, an almond leaf in their tank water is also antifungal and should help to stop any recurrence :D
if you are only doing 1 bath every other day, your lessening the symptoms but not eradicating them which is why it reoccurs

I've also had the dense white fungus. I've found that you can sometimes gently pick it off (I just did by hand). Then do salt baths as recommended.

Almond leaves shouldn't be used in conjunction with salt baths, as they actually work against each other. I would wait until the fungus has cleared up before using almond leaves.

well this is where i feel like a lame forum poster, for since i posted this thread ive seen no sign of anything.. much like i have seen this pattern of sickness. hmm i feel like the only info i can provide is what i see eventualy.. which is the pattern ive already been seeing the past few months or so... sigh...
