I'm just curious. Does the GFP express in the eggs? Or can you get the eggs to glow, or at what stage does it start to express at a detectable level?

Re: green fluorescent cross axolotl eggs

Please excuse my ignorance, but do you have pics of the green flourescents that you can post? You've piqued my curiosity!

In mixed eggs you can't tell which are gfp. Sometimes the protein and waste from gfp axolotls glows under a black light.

I moved this discussion out of the ad section, as it's of a theoretical nature and not directly relevant to the ad. I think there's a lot of curiosity about GFP axolotls in general.

There is a photo of a GFP axie under black light on the AGSC website:

I believe that under normal room light they look like any other axolotl.

Not exactly. They have a yellowish green tint. The wild types have green eyes under normal light. If you glance at them you might miss that they are gfp. If you look close under normal light it's easy to tell the difference.

Is this a bright glow? I haven't noticed it yet, but will definitely start looking.

not real bright.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
