Re: i have a rare spieces

Looks more like P. hongkongensis. If you can get a clear shot of it's belly we could be sure of it's indentity.

There's some very good Paramesotriton care information here. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Re: I have a rare spieces

I dont think its hongkongensis but as Mark says a belly shot will help.

Re: I have a rare spieces

Did you post this on Repticzone? :D

However though to me, it looks nothing like a crocodile newt.

Re: I have a rare spieces

The term "crocodile newt" refers to members of the genuses Tylototriton and Echinotriton.
The newt pictured is without a doubt a Paramesotriton sp., the problem being which species hehe.

Re: I have a rare spieces

It looks a lot like hongkongensis to me, but the orange on the belly as far as I see from the pic looks more 'broken up' than a hongkongensis would be...

As already mentioned, to anyone in the salamander world 'crocodile newt' refers to Tylototriton and Echinotriton. In Phillipe de Vosjoli's book Popular Amphibians, he refers to Paramesotriton as crocodile newts. I have also seen them sold under that name in petstores. It is understandable why there could be some confusion.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
