When we got Axle, our 12inch Leucistic, my daughter advertised online for a tank. A response came through that night. When we got there their dog was all over us. Trying to lick us on the face.. I thought, what a friendly dog. The lady came out and showed us the tank. It was perfect. I asked how much and she said, "you don't remember me do you, Sassy, her dog, remembers you's". Then it click. Three years ago we rescued a badly neglected dog (sassy) who had been stolen.. It took us 12 weeks to bring her back to good health.. The two who stole her were prosecuted and banned from owning pets. They got 3 months in prison..And thats when we found her real Owner.. Ummm sorry about this fathead moment.
Anyway she said she could never repay us for rescuing Sassy and gave the Tank to us for free..
The Tank is 35 x 15 x 15 inches.. So there it is. I showed you mine, show me yours.... for idea's and maybe plagiarism..Please... I'll go as far as pretty please...

Ooooooo, what a Big tank you have!!! :D :p What size is it?!? It looks Huge!?
Also, have you had any problems with the white sand? I realize my one tank is still cycling, but the white sand is covered in brown diatoms! :dizzy: :dizzy: I don't mind the brown algae on my waterfall, but it looks nasty on the white sand :(
Seriously thinking about going bare bottom If it's not gonna go away..
I've only ever used black sand and gravel.. Now I know why lol

I don't have problems with my sand getting really dirty but I do clean as soon as I see poop.

Thank you. Rita, sassy's owner, told us it belonged to her grandmother and it was her who framed it. The whole thing is framed. She also painted the back glass blue and part of each side..... and hey, you were meant to be giving me ideas..haha

Oh and it's a 20 gal long

The tank seriously looks like it's 5-6 feet long! How deep is the water?
I think I want a 20 long for my next build! :bowl: :D
Now where to put it.. I guess I can get rid of my bed  :D :D

so this is my 55gal build I finished about 2 months ago. I started the cycle with Lotl poop for the first 4 days, then I got 5 goldfish. I left them in for 4 days (they are now in my outdoor pond). Two days after I pulled them, my cycle hit its ammonia peak, nitrites are now dropping. Now all that is in there are my trapdoor snails, Copods, daphnia and some brown planeria I put in there and lots of plants. Soon, it will be a full on pond Vivarium! I've been working on this since last August, but had to stop do to weather temps an humidity factors. I finished it almost 2 months ago, I let it air out for two weeks and then soaked it in salt for 2 weeks. it's been cycling since :)
It's pretty clear I'm into the naturalist type set ups. But at the same time I want to do a Zen like set up community fish tank like Tammyaxie's Lotl tank. Tanks like that are very relaxing. Heck, all aquariums are relaxing lol actually, I'd be happy with the sound of running water lol just not the toilets running water ;)

This is the waters surface. There will be many more floating plants when I get them, I just have to ship some out so I can get the "trading" started :)
I would give you some, but I don't think I can ship'm to the UK :(
But I'll happily ship some to you TammyAxie! I have lots to go around! Besides, I think you two are pretty awesome. I LOVE animal lovers. They tend to be the most kind and logical people around :)

This it a top view of the waterfall I made. I love the brown diatoms growing on the rocks. It kinda makes the rocks look more natural :) but I want it off my sand!!!!
Btw, ignore the tubing. When all is finished, that will supply fresh aquarium water to the empty planter hole located to the right. Also under the waterfall is a giant cave for the Lotls to chill during the daytime. I just hope they like it when they move in :-/ holy cow, I Want to move IN!

The above the water line plants are Kennilworth ivy, common spider plants, vinca. And some random pond plant that I don't know. I'm gonna test and see how some vining "black eyed Suzans" do. The Kennilworth ivy is already in bloom, so I though some yellow flowers would look good too.
On the surface is Dwarf Water lettuce and Azzola "fairy moss" soon to be getting some Salvinia.
Under the waterline I have some Pond clover fern (marsileascaea) great for cold water" some creepy Jenny/money wart/ pot O'gold (Lysimachia nummularia) and some pond plant called Parrot Feathers. All of which the Lotls Love to hang out in. Soon to be getting some Sag. grass as well.

This is the Parrot Feathers. It's really neat stuff. It's green, yellow and burgundy. Colorful!

Pond clover fern. It sends up 4 leaf clovers to the water surface that look like Lillypads!

And this is the tank everyone is in right now. It's a 40g breeder tank.
I made the decor out of Polly clay. The Lotls Love their new caves!
Same plants, parrot feathers, dwarf water lettuce, and creepy Jenny. Maybe it's creeping Jenny, but I like creepy Jenny better lol

Btw, sorry this was so long, but I like to explain in detail. Knowledge is Priceless :D

If you want to know how I made the 55gallon setup, I'll gladly tell you in detail and I took photos of all the steps :)

Oh, and Stubby says, Hello!

I am absolutely taken by your creativity.. All your creations are like a stroll through wanderland, a walk in a quiet country grove and a romp in the playground.. They're brilliant.. I think I've seen a step by step illustrated guide of your 55 when you were creating it, in here (this site).. and I was impressed then.. You're the type of person who can look at something and know exactly what to do with it and see its potential... Brilliant!!.... Polly clay, thats a good idea..
What a beautiful healthy looking Stubby, "Hi Stubby".... Thank you

You do realize that now I have to make a couple park benches and figure out how to make a sidewalk so it looks like a Lotl park. Annnnnnd now I need a "Lotl crossing" sign lol
Thank you for the ideas, now I have something to help me sleep!

Btw, thank you very much for the wicked awesome compliments! :proud: :proud:
This site needs a "warm and fuzzy" smiley icon :D :p :frog:

I love love love those tanks! Beautiful with all the plants ^.^ Where do you find the fairy moss? There isn't a very high demand for live plants for tanks in my area so I have the hardest time finding any.

Re: I'll show mine, show me your's.New tank idea's

Here is my tank that I just finished two days ago. I used fish-safe expandable foam to create a custom background and hide the ugly filter. I also assembled the light out of linoleum gutter, gutter caps, spray paint, and led lights. The led lights have 24 color options and also can be customized to change from one color to the next. I thoroughly enjoyed putting the tank together and saved more money, for what is in my opinion, a more appealing tank than the film that stores sell that tapes to the back of the tank. I'm interested in adding live plants to the tank so if anybody knows any good sources, let me know :D.

WOW!... Where do you guys get your artistic ideas from. This is breath taking.. Its like a modern jungle... I very much like your lighting idea and the expandable foam... You've got my head ticking over with all these ideas influenced by all the aquascaping I've seen so far...

You've done really well. Have you observed your Lotls reaction to different colour lights? I've been experimenting with different colour objects in their tank..

Thank you very much codyj...

Awesome, it's looks great!!! And you used the pond foam like I did! Isn't that stuff wonderful?!?

Re: I'll show mine, show me your's.New tank idea's

My local Home depot did not supply the great stuff pond and stone so I ordered it online and they shipped it to my local store for free. I felt pretty safe using it as it is safe for fish. One recommendation would be to find a way to weigh it down as it does float =/. I have my in place by using the decorations to anchor it down, but an alternative (better) idea would be to attach an aquarium glass cleaner (magnetic) to the bottom so that it is secured to the tank. In total I paid $40 for the lights and background, but had a blast making it. If you have a larger tank I would recommend visiting kingofdiy on youtube as he has many great ideas such as an underwater waterfall that you could include.

As far as lights go they typically prefer the dark, but mine have showed no negative reaction to the different colors, in fact many times they swim to the front of the tank when I turn them on.
