My Chinese Fire belly newts seeeeeeeem to be in mating condition (not positive). Two of my three males have little dots on their tails and the females seem to be a little fatter then like a couple days ago. anybody know if they're in Mating condition or not? I have 3 males and 2 females.

Have you look on this web site to see what their mating habits are?

See http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Cynops/C_orientalis.shtml for descriptions of the breeding condition. If this doesn't answer the question let us know how. The animals can be in courtship colors for months if conditions are right and the animals are sufficiently well fed however your description is too vague. I would suggest checking the link above and examining the cloaca of the newts in question.

Hi. Sorry I haven't replied in a while. I looked at the newts cloacas and there are hairs coming out of the males. I'm pretts sure they are in mating conditon. I've read the section on Cynops Orientalis alot of times before. I'm pretty sure that they're in mating condition. the one male that didn't seem to be in mating condition was being bullied by the other males so I seperated him and he is now very happy in a new tank.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
