Our pool guy fished this Sierra Newt metamorph out of someone else’s pool and left it for me in a bottle since he knows I keep various reptiles and amphibians.
I’m going to try to raise this guy and it’s been many years since I’ve had a salamander or newt.

Question is: what is the best food for something this small? Pin head crickets or wingless fruit flies?
Thanks!

For little terrestrial news, I like giving them blackworms in a Gatorade lid. Dusted lesser mealworms are usually eaten as well.

Just so you know, the state of CA considers taricha torosa and taricha sierra species of concern and it isn't legal to possess them in CA or remove them from the wild. It's nearly impossible to tell them apart visually but this looks like one of them. Please keep that in mind.
