Thanks to user jcurella, I now have two new Marbled Salamanders! The substrate is a mix of coir and organic topsoil, and it angles down from both ends of the cage to the water bowl in the middle. The water in the bowl is spring water to help uptake of minerals, and the hiding log side of the enclosure is damp with distilled water to give the setup a humid side, a dry side, and full submersion for whatever the animals need at any given moment.
I have a red oak in my backyard away from any chemicals the front yard might have picked up, so I used those leaves as cover in the enclosure after boiling them with distilled water. The Caudata Culture article on wood says to not use oak, and use of leaves most likely extends from the wood: Caudata Culture Articles - Wood in Vivaria. I've seen threads here where people say they've used oak with no problems, though. What's the consensus here: should they be replaced with other leaves?
P.s. I'll try to upload more pictures when I shrink the file sizes.
