Good morning all!

I would just like to introduce myself and my Parter (Jenny) to this friendly looking forum full of useful looking information! :D

I have just ordered a custom build Aquarium, Roughly 48" long, 18" wide and 12" tall and I'm looking at getting a small group (Perhaps 4) of Fire bellied newts in there.

As im sure its the case for the rest of you, we want to make sure they are happy and live in the most appropriate environment possible.

Could anyone give us a few general pointers like on what kinda of water level these guys like best? We're hoping to get a good 1/3 land to 2/3 water ratio going but im unsure as to the depth they prefer. Any advice?

Further more, we have read up that a filter for them is advisable, but we hear that they really dislike any current in the water. Is there any specific filter anyone reccomends for these little guys? And what kind of water changes are going to be required?

Also, (Sorry to drag this on) are there any general mediecines that are required from time to time for any common problems? We'd really hate to have a sick Newt on my hands and end up having to order in any meds and watch the poor guy suffer or worse case die. :(

We'd appreciate any information on the above and we're looking forwards to being part of this community.

Many thanks in advance!

Carl & Jennifer ;)

Once you have digested all this information, you may have more specific questions.
Happy reading and happy newt tending!
