Hi moved your piccys to new thread.

Looks like a nice big fat lady you have there. Best of luck with her.

She has a VERY big belly almost too big for my liking!

What do others think???

And I thought that my little lady was fat!!!! Looks like you beat me - but not by much!

My black female was really fat and I thought that it was just cause she was ready to breed and that she was full of eggs - but she's layed eggs now and she just keeps getting fatter!!!! She's alot shorter than yours by the looks of the size of the tank - mine is only 20cm or so, but she is a little guts!!! Talk about pigglet!!! She will eat anything that goes in the tank - I spoil all my axi's and I spose they are all on the "pudgy" side but this one takes the cake - she has about 4-6 meal worms each day and 2-3 pellets, and I don't often offer her anything else - but when I do she snaps it up pretty quick!!! She's always hungry and when ever anyone goes near the tank she's there waiting at the top for some food!!! When I feed my 3 babies she always has to be first - she won't let the others eat untill she has had at least 2 worms!!!

Anyway she's not as fat as your big lady - but getting close - but she's happy and healthy and I don't think axi's worry about body image!!!

I dont feed my animals every day to prevent them from getting obese. They each get about 7cm of earthworm 3 times a week (which is probably still overfeeding).

Mary, they always ACT like they're hungry, but that doesnt make them hungry. They're just greedy, and will eat and eat until they cant eat any more. its a Wild animal thing.

Axies are opportunistic feeders i.e they won't miss the opportunity to feed. Bit like hobbits i guess

so do they like shinny rings that hold the power to destroy all of middle earth too?

Well I don't really care what you guys think about how I feed my babies. Sorry if that sounds mean or like I am a know it all, but I know that my axi's are happier than ever.

When I was feeding them one or two pellets every 3rd or so day they never looked well - they wern't very active and their gills were always pale and they didn't really respond to anything like light or someone comming in to the room etc. Now they are so active (but not agitated active, just playful) their gills are always very bright and very fluffy and I've even noticed that their eyes are clearer!!! The only thing that I have changed is their eating habbits.

If you guys don't like it then too bad, my animals have NEVER had ANYTHING wrong with them! Everyone on here seems to have problems with their axi's but I never have. So if you don't mind I will just keep on looking after them like I always have, thankyou!!!

I'm sorry if this comes across rude - but I had to say it, you guys are great and you do really care about you pets (like I do) and I think that it is really good how you are all prepared to give advice to anyone who needs it - some things have been helpful, but I think some of you take it all too seriously. Yes, they are living creatures and we should always do our best to look after them, but at what expense? Once again I am sorry if this comes across rude, it isn't ment to be offensive.

Mary, stressy pants

of course, you must do what you feel is appropriate. I think you will find that we don't all agree on things like how much, how often to feed, and why should we?

KC doesn't feed every day she says above. On the other hand mine eat every day without fail. I even feed Moonpie (135mm long baby) twice a day, once in morning and once in evening, typically a worm 50mm or so long.

One way to tell if you are feeding too often or too much, though, is the vomiting of a bolus. (Pellets of partially digested food). It kind of looks a bit like a poo but is usually covered in a clear mucus coating. So if you see bolus cut down a little if you don't then so what!

Before flaming just try remember that advice is optional, if you ask for it you will get plenty but it's up to you if you follow it.

kibnd of reminds me of a mom protecting her kids when ppl say they are overweight.

lol, Mary, you can feed whenever you want. I'm not saying feeding every day is BAD, but if you feed them a lot every day, they'll get over-fat. I just prefer not to feed mine every day. That way I can go away for the weekend, and I know they're not expecting food every day.

I dont feed mine every day and sometimes i do sometimes i leave it a copule of days, its just so that i know like KC they will be ok for a few days with out me feeding them.

They're gills arent normally that red, they were kind of upset at being netted and tossed into a bucket.

Thanks everyone.

Those pics are sooooo cute!!! I want mine to grow up quickly so then they look like that!!!! How old are they??? And how long? (it's a bit hard to tell from pics)

Awww KC... i still want your purple one! They look like they are doing very well.

i feed mine a alot of worms thats all it eats but i only got it two week ago so it might eat different foods when its older but back to the point mine eats alot of earthworms it eats about 2 inches a day is that way to much but he is not fat he is pretty thin but when i got him he was really thin is it to much food or not enough he looks pretty active and happy

Here's Satchel, if anyone was wondering. (My user pic is of the other axie, Bucky.)
