A link to THE TIMES (London, UK) ... and I don't pretend to understand in the slightist the artist's thrust (my fault, not the artists') ... however, 'Newts' appear to be a legitimate subject for political parody in the UK ... sort of ... I think?

Well the bird in the picture I can explain. It depicts the leader of the liberal democrate party Nick Clegg, over here in England. He was recently interviewed by lads mag GQ were he told the journalist that he had over 40 or something sexual partners. Apparently thats not what he meant, but thats how it came across.

As for the newt I will hope that someone else can explain that.

The newt is Red Ken aka Ken Livingstone, the mayor of London. He’s reportedly a newt fancier hence the choice of animal. I’m not sure about the pregnancy theme. Ken is a big supporter of pregnancy discrimination legislation which stems from the high gender pay gap found in London. Whether he’s recently commented on the much publicised male pregnancy of Mr lee Mingwei, I don’t know.

As a note, the "male pregnancy" was a hoax, created as an 'art project'. However, this 'male pregnancy' seems legit http://advocate.com/issue_story.asp?id=52664 (well, sort of. It depends on your definition of 'male').
