How many of you only have one axolotl?

How many of you started off with one axolotl, but then bought another, and another, and another...? And how long was it before this addiction started?

I'm just curious as when I was in the pets department of a local garden centre today I saw some lovely little axolotls. I fought the urges and my Mother's 'just buy one you know you want another!' comments as I don't feel 'prepared' enough for another yet. But I think it'll happen soon...

Not sure it's quite the same, if not worse... But I wasn't going to get any yet, not til the house is finished anyway. Then Vampybabe's axies had a whole load of babies, all exceptionally cute. So then the none turned into perhaps just one, then those two will look rather cute together, then that wild type is looking at me in a rather nice way. Then the golden albino looked rather awesome, so in two months it went from none to four all before they came home! Willpower and axies don't go together I don't think

Well the story's kinda weird but it all started with a trip to Big Al's for some african dwarf frogs and i finally saw about 10 axolotls in a 20 gallon which sadened me but i just couldnt resist saving and getting one of these after hunting them down for about 3 months so i quickly purchased one axolotl that day and put him in my 10 gallon tank and went home without afd's so after getting him some bloodworms and seeing his little cute face eat i just couldnt resist so i asked my dad to drive me up there and he said ok and i got another one :) .... and thats when the addiction started and i'm still looking for 2 more lotls for my 35g but its hard to find them where i live :(.....

hehe I started with two, one for each of my 2 oldest children. They laid eggs less than 2 weeks after we got them but only one hatched but she is a little over 10 months old now so that was 3. I'm expecting a pretty Leucistic to join them in November or December when her daddy has to move :( but the original 2 had their 2nd lot of eggs back in January. 165 hatched and 90 of them made it to saleable age but we are keeping a further 4 or 5 of those babies  bringing the total to 8 or 9.... Just as well I have a huge tank to put them in.

If you think it's hard to walk past them in the store just try saying NO when they are babies you've raised yourself. When you can spend all day staring at them seeing them looking at you all "I'm cute, you know you wanna love me forever... go on move me to the keepers tank"

This will be absolutely it for me now though..... unnnnnn-less of course I happen to see one somewhere that is just so absolutely unique and wonderful that I just HAVE to bring it home

Mere.

Eepp! Babies! They're the one big concern I'm having regarding getting another. I'm not sure whether I have the space, or how readily available the live food is around here.

I'm liking the posts so far. It sounds like some sort of therapy

I only have the one adult wildtype and was only ever planning on having one. But i keep seeing juvenile leucistics at my local petshop and i cant stop looking at them and wanting one! But not sure where i could put the little guy until he was big enough or if i have the room. Think i will have to make room and perhaps get a bigger tank in the future because i want another so much! What is it about axolotls?

My gf and i each got one little leucistics beacuse i had to move away and it was a cutesy little thing, at the time i had no idea about how much i love axoltols if i knew then what i know now.....

but when i move back to her we are going to get a big tank and put the two leucistics together and im going to get as many more as i can fit!!!!

Hmm, love the theory! But then you will see a tank that is bigger and an absolute bargain, too good to be missed and then you'll have space for a few more. Then the cycle starts again, lol!

There is an Axolotls Anonymous isn't there? Perhaps Caudata.org is the more proffesional name for it ;)

you can say that two or three more times, although once i expand to 55 or higher for my axis i plan on getting a snake a turtle a dog and some geckos and a terrestrial newt.....

now where to put all these tanks........

Next we'll be buying bigger houses to house our animal homes, lol!
I saw a 10x2 ft tank for sale earlier, had the thoughts of where it could go in my living room. Then the thought came that 10 axies would be very happy in there. Would you believe I've only had mine for 8 days?! Not that I could afford the tank, or get it back to mine!

I have one at the moment.

I did have two, but Chuckie was smaller than Alex and even with the divider up he kept fiding a way through. Alex bit him twice and the second time when he was been fridged he died :(

So I think for now I'm only going to keep Alex on his own. I'm worried about trying him with another even around the same size after what happened with Chuckie. They have like six hides and a 3ft tank but Alex is very nippy when something is near him.

I really really want more, but I just don't have room for another tank :(

Oh I forgot to mention..

I started with 2 (wildie and melanoid) in a 2ft (3 months ago), realised that it was too small so got a 3ft (2 months ago) and added a Leucistic... Have been lusting after a golden for weeks so last week I decided to upgrade to a 4ft (but that will be it for me, the most I'll do is get a little 2.5er to put underneath) and get some babies..

So yes I'd say I am definitely addicted. My plan is to have about 6 eventually, all of different colours! :)

Currently, i have two, one leucistic and one wild. I love them!! But the sad thing is, even if I want more I couldn't get any as I live with my parents and they don't like pets :(.

Plus, my cat would probably have a nervous breakdown!

I met this girl in pets mart who was raving about them so when i looked em up on google i was like OMG I NEED ONE NOW, and now everytime i look at everyone's on here im like i want that one and that one and this one and that one!

but arent they just SOOOOO CUTEEE! god sometimes i feel like a little girl which is odd.....

I too started with 1 axie, but I got another and that is were I will be staying, my tank isnt big enough for 3.

here is a pic of my 2 monsters, both are female. the golden is named "Lance-Alotl" and the Melanoid is named "Knuckles" because of the extra toes she has on one of her feet.

Ignore the timestamp, the date on my camera is off!

I've loved axies since I was a little girlie, but never realised they could be pets in the UK. When I found out they could, I started hunting, but not seriously. When I did start searching seriously, I wanted a couple of leucies. What I actually found wass some goldens, so planned to get just 2 of them, as I had 3ft tanks left over from when I had a fair few GAL snails. I was offered a few wild-type + since 1ft per axie seemed great at the time, I was like, hell yeah! 3 axies for £10 (plus bus + train fare) was super-excellent ;) Got the same for my friend, so we even shared travel costs :D
Then, at the start of this year, I inherited my friend's 3 axies, as they weren't getting as much attention as they deserved, were far too small + had unnoticed nipping injuries, so my total went up to 6 (though I've only got them until they're rehomed).
A couple of months ago, I got myself a couple of leucie babies (now I've got 2 x 4ft tanks, I've got space for them even if they turn out to both be girls, but I'm hoping for 1 girl + 1 boy, so I can tell who's who, LoL!) so, the total went up to 8
And, yesterday, the wonderful Star transported some axies 1/2way across the country for me as she was travelling in vaguely the general areas for collection + my house, so I have adopted another 15 baby leucies + 5 baby wild-types, making the current total 28 :D

So, if anyone is looking for a baby leucie / wild-type, or an imperfect adult golden / wild-type (because they STILL haven't been collected by the person who has been saying they want them for the past 3.5 months!)+ is local to Stoke-on-Trent, I shall be advertising them soon :p

I discovered them totally by accident, looking at the oddballs section of a fishkeeping website, and had the exact same reaction. I gave everyone a day to talk me out of it and they totally failed. :D
