Overwintering N. kaiseri

I'm pleased to report that mine have now gone aquatic! As always, I'm staggered at the change in their behavior from secretive & nocturnal in the terrestrial phase to day/night and much more outgoing in the aquatic phase.

Alan, any update? I leave in just a few days for South America and I was hoping to hear good news before I left from you... I took a good look at my whole group of N. strauchii and all are now adult size, and many are sexable. Perhaps Ed will try to breed them still this year in my absence, if not, I do look forward to getting back eventually and try them next year.

Not yet. They are completely aquatic now but no eggs yet. If they do, you'll hear it here first!

For me the same...but in contrary to Frank, my male has a swollen cloaca and is very active. The females also have nicely developed cloaca's...

Well, still no eggs and they are becoming increasingly terrestrial.
It doesn't look like anything will happen this year. I'll have to rethink my plans for next winter.
Anyone else had any success?

Nope, my animals become more active, I saw the male first making moves towards the females two weeks ago, and yesterday again. They are still fully aquatic. But I wonder why it takes so long for them to start...no eggs yet.

So, was anyone successful this season?
My animals are now completely terrestrial and I plan to move them to a dry forest type setup as described by Frank until next Spring when I will try again.

Nope, mine also went on land. They were well fed, male courted, females looked full of eggs but nothing happened. Next year I'll try something with more quick changes in temperatures.

Argg... this was an amazing thread to read!!! Merkins and all!

Did anybody try to cycle them this year? This has the makings of a cliff-hanger of my favorite show. I can't wait to see what happens THIS season!!
