Hey guys awhile ago I said I was going to start up an axolotl channel and I just posted up my first how to video. It's mostly just for the beginner but I'm hoping to make them more and more advanced with each video. If you guys have any ideas for my next video I'd appreciate it!

Cover the basics! Feeding and cleaning? Maybe an example of normal axie behaviour could help too?

Will definately subscribe

I love this idea!! How many threads are created on just the the simple basic stuff? I think using "visual aides" may help out those that aren't into reading for their research. Let's give it a try

Good quality vid man. I really like your shelving racks, could you post the source? I'm in desperate need of organization as tanks continue to fill my room.

Keep it up!

I just bought it at menards for around $150. I'm sure if you go to your local hardware store for shelving they'll have something similar. Just looks at how much pounds each shelf is rated to hold.

It would be exactly the same but with a bigger filter and more sand, plants and hides to fill up the tank

It's so funny I came across this post, before I joined I totally watched 2 of your videos! They really helped me to make sure I had my tank set up right. Thank you!

I would love to see one on normal axolotl behaviour! I see so many posts from worried owners that turn out to be completely normal behaviours, and I remember for the first two weeks whipping out the computer every time Toothless so much as yawned >.<

Fantastic! To be honest I really look forward to the cycling video too. There's lots of fab info out there but it doesn't cover the day to day cycling business, only the during and after. I check my results on my cycling tank every two days but I'm not quite sure what exactly they're saying. I do need to read up on it a little more though.

It's great to have someone show you and explain these aspects of care in plain English (or Hungarian, or Japanese, etc) :D

Awesome! I can't wait for your other videos. It's definitely one thing to read about doing all of this and another thing to actually do it. And perfect timing for me to have watched this video since I'm probably going to be setting up at least my sand and water this week!

I would like to know how to safely transfer an axolotl from one tank to another. Living in west Texas he might be spending some time in the refrigerator if the tank gets to warm.

And even .25 ammonia is bad what you want for nitrite and ammonia is 0 and .25 for short periods

@DarthNyQuil, what's your ph? Ammonia is non-toxic at lower ph so might not need to panic, however if you have hard water (think calcium deposits in a tea kettle), you likely have a high pH and thus should be maintaining 0. Either way, use seachem prime to dechlorinate your water and get the added benefit of making ammonia and nitrite non-toxic for 24 hours, the peace of mind is worth it.

  • faebugz:
@DarthNyQuil, to cycle more quickly/safely, see if you have a friend or trusted LFS with some filter media you could add to your filter. It will cycle it almost instantly, far better than bottled stuff. Speaking of bottled insta-cycle, some people swear by tetra safe start, although I've never used it myself so can't vouch for it. And finally to make it more safe, feel free to do larger water changes to get that ammonia lower- 90% of the bacteria you're growing is in the filter, 9% on surfaces, and maybe 1%> in the water column. So even a
100% water change won't really effect the cycle process

My axolotls were doing fine until the cycle int heir tank crashed. I currently have them tubbed and they wont stop shedding their slime coat, and my golden albino looks a little red, and his gills dont look too good. Theyre both flaoting and im keeping the tub at 18 degrees celsius and doing 100% water changes everyday, any help on anythingelse? can anyone help?

@Jaeger I would try to double up on Prime to combat the slime coat shed when doing the 100% water changes. Also, if it's bad, might want to consider a tea bath as a preventive measure.
