Does somebody knows for How any years this species maintain its fertility? Do you think that an eight years old female could mate and reproduce for many years?
Fairly uneducated guess...But I would think that, given that the species can live 30+ years, an eight year old female could continue to reproduce for at least a decade, and probably far longer.
Totally agree with schmiggle, I'd say way in excess of ten years too. Most wild animals probably never get to that age whilst CB could have issues eg overweight or some dietary deficiency affecting the reproductive ability. Also consider all the environmental issues such as temperature cycles (daily and yearly) which might temporarily impact on breeding/fecundity.
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
