Salamanders reintroduced to Ohio waterways

I love those mud puppies , they looks very similar to axolotl but their behavior are most opposite . :D

I don't think the Hellbenders are referred to as mudpuppies? It's Necturus malacosus and sometimes other Necturus species that get that common name. I think it's just sloppy research by the author of the article?
Mudpuppies are cool though, I do agree with that. :)

It's probably one of the most common things to address in Hellbender conservation and probably one of the things that makes working with the public a bit difficult (discerning whether a person is talking about an actual bender or mudpuppy instead). Almost always they are referred to as mudpuppy's and even after addressing that its a completely different species, I often still hear them called that again later. Guess old habits die hard.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
