Illness/Sickness: Sick Axolotl

Definatly the pleco sucking on his tail. If the white fuzzies and the pleco are gone he will be in good shape in no time.

Enjoy your first worm feeding!!:D

Heh Lids

Ok when was the last time he ate and can you post piccies of his current state??

Hi I've had a look at him thins morning and taken some more photos hes looking worse :( I think the close up picture are clear on his side, I thought he was heeling but his skin looks like it is just dropping off :( I don't think there is any sign of fungi on him.
He has got no interset in eatting and is not interested in the wiggly worm even when it is pushing into him :(

Is there any thing else u think I can do for him other than fridging and daily water changes

Thanks

Lids

all you can do is wait and watch.

I personally don't think it's fungus, it looks more like dead tissue sloughing off from around the wound.

fungus more looks like white tufts of cotton wool, like a fluffy cloud attached to your axie and it spreads fast.

I didn't think it looked like fungus either I'll just keep an eye on him fingers crossed.

thanks for the piccy update, poor thing :( Lydia all you can keep doing is fridging him with daily dechlorinated water and keep offering a worm daily, you can leave on in there for him for an hour and if its not eaten just remove it, he may eat whilst your not looking!!

Hpe he gets better soon, your doing all you can do, fingers crossed!

Thanks Zoe will just keep on as I have bn doing and fingers crossed :frog:

no worries keep at it, sadly plecs can do great damage so will take time for its skin to heal, sure he will get there with all your love and tlc :D

3 weeks? Jeez.

Does he exhibit any of the classic signs of stress like kinked tail and forward curled gills or floating?

And how often is he eating? I'm thinking that if there is no signs of fungus or constipation, perhaps having him in the fridge and slowing his metabolism is also slowing down the rate that he is healing.

Sad news I've been out to check on him and he has died :( I've just buried him in the garden.

Chris

He was not showing any signs of stress, or floating or curled gills. He did not show any sign of damage to his side until two weeks ago when I brought him out of the fridge for a day and put him in a small tank. The original reason that I put him in the fridge was due to a limp leg and damage to his tail. Originally he was eatting wiggly worms in the the fridge and then he stopped eatting them as he brought them back up. He then was eatting a little blood worm and then he stopped eatting. He appeared to be getting better but suddenly showed signs of deterioration when I checked on him last night. He had signs of redness in his tail which were not there this morning. I thought keeping them in the fridge helped them heal.

Lydia - I am so so sorry :( May your axie RIP x

*hugs* sorry for your loss.

Thanks for all of your messages and support while he was ill. I'm really upset about it but I know I did the best for him that I could do.

I'm so sorry to hear this!
It's tough losing a pet, and I know he was dearly loved. You did the absolute best you could, we all know that.

Really sorry.

i have had a simalar problem with my axy too! i have a leusistic male and a melanoid female in a 75g tank with a 7 inch pleco and i noticed one day he was trying to attach himself to the male. i figured he wasnt hungrey for the algea tabs anymore so i moved him to a diffrent tank and now the spot hasnt gone away or gotten any better. i put him in the fridge to help him heal and someone told me to put some chilled green tea in the water to help with the skin healing. any sugesstions so my little guy doesnt die from this?

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much
