Hello it's Paul from France,

I'm very surprised and a little proud that my thread started in 2005 is still on the board as a sticky thread, and the picture still on line:

http://www.caudata.org/forum/f1173-...p-etc/39760-ambystoma-mavortium-breeding.html

it seems I may be was one of the firsts to breed the A.mavortium, WOW !

my english has not really improved so excuse my grammatical mistakes...

Well,

I'm still breeding my salamanders, F2 now, but still looking for new species and sub species, very hard to find in France...maybe now I will have some help from internationl, european breeders that succeed in breedings...

larvae a few weeks ago ;-)

well image hosting is working ;-) but only 3 at a time with the attachment option ?

i have a hundred larvae, raised in two separate tanks, one indoor, the other outdoor,

on the last picture you can see the size of the larvae to the right the biggest one ( 6 cm)
at the left average size from the indoor tank, in the middle average size from the outdoor tank,

i feed them with daphnia ( as seen in the pictures)

more pictures ;-)

Hello ;-)

temperatures are very high in this month of july, almost 30°C here in the north,

and today I found 2 larvae starting to metamorphose, shape is changing, less fat, color is changing too, more spots, and gills are reducing...

on the first pic you can see the difference between two larvae

Hi Paul
What size are the larvae now?
Mine are up to 13 cm and no signs of reducing the gills yet

Hello Soe, my larvae are about 10 cm,

these two are precocious I think may be due to the high temperatures (30°C)

they usually metamorphose when 12/13 cm,

sometimes some don't metamorphose the first year and then they metamorphose when 16 cm

the level of water in my tanks is 5 cm

;-)

Thanks for the "likes"

Metamorphosis is accelerating,

10 larvae are changing, the precocious don't have gills anymore !

how can I make my pictures to appear in full size (800x600) in my post ?

Lovely pictures. I hope to breed mavortium next year or at least have a few fertile eggs to work with. I still hope to make a real "Godzilla" and not just a 20 cm larvae. I recon it is impossible with tigrinum but maybe possible with mavortium or diaboli. My tigrinum are still not transforming, so I hope at least 1 will be 20 cm before metamorphosis.

Here is a pic of the mavortium that could be the next project. They are huge and 3,1 so it might be possible.

Best wishes

Beautiful mavortium ! the tail looks very strong !

How do you manage your picture to appear full size on this board ?

How and Why your tigrinum larvae don't metamorphose ? are they neotenic ? any signs of transformation ?

Hi Paul.

I place all pics in a folder on my webpage after reducing their size to 600 pixels and also down from 4 MB to 100-150 kb.
When I want to add them to a forum, I do as follows:

Thats the only way I know of, but I am also a dinosaur on a computer.

Conserning my tigers there are news. Yesterday I saw that one of the animals has reduced its gills. Not one of the biggest, but only a 15 cm larvae.

So it should start now. I am both happy and sad. Happy because I don`t to feed and change water so much. Sad because I don`t think I will reach a 20 cm larvae

Pic will come up on Marios tiger tread.
