The Caudata Haiku thread

so mesmerising/ Like a flash, I flick back scared./ It's my reflection. :)

That little larva
will never be lonely now.
He ate his brother.

I honestly think that's the deepest and best haiku about salamanders that I've ever seen. Well done!

Opal Creek sallies...
You eluded me all week.
Better luck next time!

I await the day
When my newts begin to lay.
Till then, I will pray.

Oh, my little newt
Looking so plump, yet pretty.
Why won't you just lay

Conditions just right.
Male is looking for loving,
Female not so much.

Await my compilation of haikus, Breeding Woes, by jasper408!

I am THAT bored I'm trawling old threads today....but I love these!

Here are my attempts:

Dark axolotl
hides under a shady log
no, you can't see me...

Small axolotl
I wish you would eat more worms
and grow very big

Me too, there's not much call for Haiku where I come from but i'll give it a go :)

Japanese giant,
Much heavier than my dog.
I'll stick to Cynops!

Every season
My beauty grows more stunning
Who can resist me

I hate moving house
Caecilians hate buckets
I'm still a bit wet

Brilliant, completely sums up the moving aquariums tomfoolery in three short lines! :)

I live in the water
Yet I gulp air like a pro
Aren't I wondrous?

I'm bored at work again.

Axolotls are NOT fish:
Neotenic pet
Swimming - though you are not fish
but salamander

Axie in a tank
Swims right up to the surface
And gulps at the air

Ode to summer:
Sad axolotl
Sulking in the summer heat
Waiting for winter

A haiku about floaty-bum syndrome:
Back end is floating
Obviously not happy
He needs to poop!

And how about a personal ad:
Axolotl girl
Round and filled with many eggs
Seeks male for mating

Lil' Axolotl
Where do you think you're going
So clumsy and cute!

Dakota Tigers,
You live in Prairie Potholes.
Waders help find you!

North Dakota Sucks.
Diversity of Tigers
isn't too bad, though.

So many colours
Mine are golden, black, and green
Utter perfection

Not sure if this is right, but here it goes...

Summer too dry
No Amphibians to be found
Where's the rain?

EDIT: Nope, I did it wrong, lets try again.....

Summer is too dry
No Salamanders anywhere
Where is the rain?

That should be right.

Four little larvae
swimming in a tub ..... and CHOMP!
Now there's only three.

Oh hungry lotl
Why do you watch me eat lunch
When you can't eat cheese?

Are you girl or boy,
Little axie four months old?
Only time will tell...

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
