OK.. so my axie tank is HUGE (400L) so feeding is a bit of a problem. As in, if one is in the corner, I wouldn't be able to reach.
So, currently there is only one axie in it, Banana (Avatar, and no, I don't have that substrate anymore).
So I have a breeder-fry saver- net thing, and the idea came to me -

Put the net in sideways, and I can train Banana to only eat in that.
So, I put it in sideways, turned the light on (a dim blue, very pretty. There is another one but is like Hospital bright, so I don't use that).
Then, I netted Banana and put the net in the doorway of the fry-saver. She swam into the fry-saver (getting out of the net). I then gave her the beloved worms, once she saw food was coming, she wasn't going ANYWHERE. :) Turning the light off, I left her.. Banana swam out to do the things axies do.

Will this work? The plan is to do this long enough so when I turn the light on, she will just swim in herself.
Any tips?

So, this is also helpful if she misses the food. That way it is easy for her to see/get, or for me to pick up and try again. :)

It isn't the biggest thing in the world.. but if it works.
Is there something better I can use instead, without moving her into a different tank?

I love the idea! That would make it SO much easier to clean up. On mythbusters they trained goldfish to find food by swimming through a series of holes...so I'd have thought an axle could handle that. You should try anyway - it looks like a nice place to hang out anyway :D

That's a great idea! Hopefully it works. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't. With food being the end result, I'm sure she'll learn it (and be quite willing to). I'm anxious to see how this works! Good luck! You may even end up with her swimming into the breeder net whenever she wants food.

Thank you Siona. :)
Training goldfish to do that sounds harder than going to a net when the light is turned on.. Thanks for that. :)
Yeah, it does look like a nice place to hang too.

Thanks Jzehr125, I'm pretty confidant it'll work.

You may even end up with her swimming into the breeder net whenever she wants food.
Haha.. yeah, I can imagine her doing that all day long.. little pig.

Yay Banana, my favorite axie! Brilliant idea. I would imagine Banana would probably eventually learn to go in the net whenever the food comes.

I know people train fish to eat out of tiny jars in order for easy cleanup. I'm sure your axie will catch on in no time. I hand feed mine and whenever I stick my hand in the water my axolotl immediatly swims up to it now. Now all I really have to do is dangle the worm in the water and my axolotl will come to the surface, no need to stick my hand in at all anymore.

Cool. Yeah, I hand feed most of my Bettas (Siamese Fighting Fish). When I put my females in, they swim into my hand.. really easy if I'm moving them. :)
Our community fish are light trained.. when the light comes on it is time to eat. Animals learn pretty quick when food is involved. ;)

I think this is an ace idea.I think I may give it a go when Frekles get bigger(only 3''atm)

How old is your 3" axie?

Mine is that size at 6months... wondering if thats normal?

Mine also has no name as of yet, can't find one that suits the personality lol

Fab idea Sarah, loving that concept!!! One of mine swims up to take food, the other 2 will but dont make the same effort lol!!

I think its brilliant!! :D

Cookie swims into her feeding jar when it is time for food...then the begging begins:D
Abby used to but he has stopped now...he just guards the entrance because cookie likes his jar as well.
I dont think they are say dumb and they make out:D

It looks like Banana likes her net regardless of whether or not food is in it!

I think Dazkeirle was trying out something similiar! You might want to message him and see how he got on. =]

On a recent trip to the Mystic Aquarium, I learned that they must train most of their fish to come to a specific area of the tank to ensure that all of them are fed. I was informed that while occasionally it does take time they all learn where the food is. They used long poles with a different color and shape at the end of it for each 'tank mate', and rewarded them when they got it and ignored when they didn't. So I am sure that you will have no problem training your axie when it comes to food.

Our fish are light trained - when the light goes on, everyone comes up as they know it is feeding time.
We have lots of fish, a 4ft in the lounge room, and my ones - 400L 4ft Axie tank, then eight fish tanks of various sizes. :O I breed Bettas (Siamese Fighting Fish).

that is pretty sweet..once it was installed, did Banana immediantly take to the new change, like even after feeding time?
i notice whenever i make a change in Trogdor's setup, he will 'hover' over the newly added or arrange detail. lol ;p
