Tylototrition kweichowensis

There's no harm giving Eurorep a ring even if they won't sell directly: 020 8573 4311

Call made.
Money sent on.
Two animals are left.
[Not the strongest ones apparently :-( ]
All my fingers are now crossed.

Cheers for help.

Yes, one of mine has a nasty sore on its side. Seems a few others throughout the bunch have acquired some too. They're not too badly off though as far as I know. 5 of mine are the picture of health right now (touch wood) and eating like pigs.

Latest Update - As of Tuesday July 22nd there are none left available. Good luck to those who have acquired any.

Update: I acquired six. Two are now dead. One arrived with a very large bad sore and died rather quickly. The second initially seemed to and then just dropped dead.

The remaining 4 seem fine (very enthusiastic eaters) but I noticed one of them tonight had developed two small sores on its "backbone ridge". Swabbed these gently with salty water to clean them and applied orabase to cover the wounds and hopefully reduce inflamation. I will keep you all informed.

Hi John, an 8hr gentimiacin 1mg/ml bath at room temperature will do wonders on most tylototriton with open wounds. In my experience I have had 100% success. I have 6 WC adult T.kweichowensis which I treated with this early in March and there obviously doing great now, but also have treated T.sanjing and T.asperrimus over the years. If you have any questions let me know.
Craig

To all friends of T.kweichowensis

I wasn´t surprised while reading your last postings,
because of being sad.
that this relatively large amount of animals exported, just seems to be a small piece of
a real large one.I got mails from china, advertising those animals in japan and europe too,.Unfortunately, most of those newts won´t have survived
their voyage.I´m also interested in asian skinks and special snakes of that origin and i had to see whole
imports of half-dead animals from china this year..There are always ways and channels for people, selling without thinking
of what they´re doing to their "products".
Unfortunately, Tylototriton species have become that popular,
that also "not that serious" keepers buy without knowing how to do it right.
Seen and bought!
There are CB animals in Germany and around, but some people aren´t interested in raising young newts,
especially "professionals"!That´s why there are hardly breeding groups to find,
consisting of CB animals.Very large groups of young Tylototriton are still dying some time after having been
given away to keepers! On the other hand,
there are a lot of breeders, but also many
who aren´t that keen on breeding seriously and are selling their CBs short after metamorphosis.
But such animals aren´t easy to raise and so it´s even very hard to find new "mommys" and "daddys" for
for much older young ones!
My motivation for writing all of this:
I guess,i´m a little frustrated of watching my raised groups of T.taliangensis and T. kweichowensis
by knowing, that it´s going to be very hard to find enough idealistic keepers for forthcoming offspring,
because everybody´s running for WC animals, when they´re coming on a trail of death,
but only real lovers like to spend time on having an eye on babies.
I have to give my WC breeding group of T.shanjing away, because there weren´t enough people,
taking responsibility for last years offspring. That´s also the reason why i divided my
T. verrucosus(dark)-tank, and why I´m going to get some T. verrucosus (light)CB of two different
breeding groups.
I know i´m a little idealistic ,but on the other hand i´m quite happy that, at least some,
of the kweichowensis got in hands like yours.
Greetings,
philipp
P.S.:Don´t think of my wallet when you might think of a missing link between Echinotriton andersoni
an me;-)

Evening all,

*John, what is the latest?

*How are other people's doing? (Hoping I'm not going to kick off a bad news thread after the wonderful good news thread above...)

*For the record, I was sent my money back by recorded post so I guess the animals died before they could be sent.

I still really hope to see the youngters of these offered for sale on this forum one day.

Best//M

Unfortunately, all of mine died within 3 weeks of receiving them. I'm mystified as to why. I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything wrong :/.

Then let me send my commiseration and condolences... and let us hope other people had more luck.

Perhaps Stuart@Eurorep might eventually have breeding success?

(It would be nice to hear from Craig too!)

Best//M

Thanks. Stuart's all died too unfortunately. There are some still alive but I'll let others name themselves.

Oh, they finally died,.....;-)
Happy to see mine doing well;-)
...
But the real question is:Does anyone of you know the exact causes of the animals dying at the moment,
or didn´t anybody send a dead animal away to let somebody look for any reason?
Would be interested in any answer!
So far,
Philipp

I'm glad it makes someone happy.

Symptoms were the same as bacterial septicemia.

I finally bought 3 pairs from Eurorep...here`s the saga so far!
My quarantine regime (for what its worth) is that I keep new arrivals separately for 8 weeks in 2ft. plastic boxes on damp kitchen towel, (replaced daily) with black plastic pipe for a hide.
My kweichows did well for 10 days, then 1 died, and 1 developed a sore on it`s back, which I treated with icing sugar.(recommended by Dave Feldmar, a Sussex Vet.) It continued eating, and the sore was healing, but it too died 3 weeks later.
The remaining 2 pairs are now together in a 4ft. vivarium, 50% water, 50% Hortag, kept at 25 degrees Celsius, with an overnight drop of 4 degrees. They feed verociously on large lobworms, (Lumbricus terrestris).

Hi all, yes I have had very good success with mine. I obtained a very large group of 18 adult T.kweichowensis. I planned on keeping 12 for a breeding colony thinking I would loose some. I have yet to loose any in fact. all of mine I received initially had ulcerated sores but were cured with the gentamicin bath I recommend above. I keep mine at 20C during the day to 12C a night now that cooler temperatures are here. They are kept in groups of 6 in 6ft*2ft terraria with 1/3 water with a depth of 20cm, planted with various fern spp, oak leaves, mosses, and flat limestone rocks to provide shelter. subtrate is a mixture of peat and sandy loam with the leaves. I'm feeding them on earthworms and black crikets.
If you have any questions let me know?
Craig

Hi
No, I´m surely not laughing about the situation,
but humour´s always the best way to get a smile on someones face again,....
Mike did it right! It´s not that good to put them in a terrarium with earth and so on to early!
But what about treating because of endoparasites?
Craigs lower temperatures the nights are very good to,
that´s the way they do best, the whole year!
peaceful greetings,
Philipp

I kept mine in an identical fashion to Mike (scarily so - I used the same substrates and everything, even treated sores with icing sugar) but mine all developed sores and sweating and eventually died. Other recipients of the same batch of animals are also experienced keepers and breeders of Tylototriton and as far as I'm aware most of the animals in the shipment of T. kweichowensis are now dead. I don't think we can all be wrong.

I wish Mike the best of luck with his and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for his success with the species.

Yes
Sudden deaths in wildcaught Tylototriton-populations,...
It happens, but it´s a reason why I don´t like pet trade that much,...
Unfortunately there are also people, losing whole groups of CB animals,...

By the way:For about two weeks, I also have to cross my fingers! My animals were a bit less than dead, when i bought them, with a little financial help of a friend of mine,...
they´re full of parasites, as i know,
but still i´m feeding every day to make sure that there´s enough newt to go on living after being medicated,...
It´s absolutely horrible to have to see such lovely creatures in such conditions,...
Greetings and good night,
Philipp
