First off! Hi, I am new here but I have read the forum for quite some time now. This website is awesome!

Now onto the serious stuff,

Is there someone in Canada working with various ssp. of S. salamandra in Canada? I managed to find 1.1 WC S.s.salamandra, but can't seem to find someone else keeping the little guys.

I tried importing some CB bernardezi specimen from the US but the seller didn't want to sell to a canadian. I really want to add other ssp. to my collection.

Hi!
I have various fire salamanders. There are impossible to find around here and nobody wants to sell to you if you are Canadian.
It's best to have them sent to a contact across the border and go pick them up. There is no restriction at the border so I don't understand why they don't want to sell to canadians??
Shipping from the U.S. to a U.S. destination is probably safer anyhow..(what if they held the salamander for days at customs??)
I've never been able to find a shipping company in Canada who accepts to handle live animals..wonder if it is part of the problem...

Thats mostly what I do. I ask to the seller to ship to a fed-ex hub across the border and go pick them up myself... I've never had any problem doing that with snakes... So I dont see what would be the problem with salamandra...

In Canada, there is only air cargo that allows the shipping of live stock... So we have to ship from airport to airport... And it's expensive...

What ssp. do you keep? I can't wait to get my hands on some nice ssp. myself! I do have found a nice guy in the US who is willing to deal with me. So we'll see where that takes me! hehe

Fire Salamanders in Mississauga, ON

The PetSmart at Mavis and Britannia has 1 fire salamander left. I bought the other 2.

I have a S.s.terrestris. There were two at the store. I'm not sure if the other is still there. (Richmond, BC) They came from Ontario. I think the suppliers name is JP's. Not sure if it's a store that's open to the public or not? Mine is captive bred, the breeder is in Ontario as well. I don't know much more than that.

As a fellow canadian fire salamander keeper (proud owner of 2 S.s.salamandra) this thread is quite interresting to me. Im in Ontario but Kingston has a by law against selling salamanders and newts which sucks for me lol. Im always interested in making new contacts as I would love to have a larger group of this subspecies (my two are males)
