I've been thinking about why pet stores and aquariums are pretty dim when it comes to axolotls and I think it's because axolotls are neither fish nor lizards. The majority of aquarium stores, well here anyway, have axolotls because they live permanently underwater in tanks. Therefore there is an assumption that what works for fish, will work for axolotls. (btw, axolotl is a damn difficult word to type over and over again!). And because fish is their primary business and brings in the $$$, they lack the iniative to find out further about axolotl (there's that word again) keeping. The closest thing to axolotls are newts and salamanders. In Australia, I don't think we have newts or salamanders,(correct me if I'm wrong) so that avenue is a mystery to us, and pet store owners etc. too. The lesson here is -
