What is he doing?

I've been thinking about why pet stores and aquariums are pretty dim when it comes to axolotls and I think it's because axolotls are neither fish nor lizards. The majority of aquarium stores, well here anyway, have axolotls because they live permanently underwater in tanks. Therefore there is an assumption that what works for fish, will work for axolotls. (btw, axolotl is a damn difficult word to type over and over again!). And because fish is their primary business and brings in the $$$, they lack the iniative to find out further about axolotl (there's that word again) keeping. The closest thing to axolotls are newts and salamanders. In Australia, I don't think we have newts or salamanders,(correct me if I'm wrong) so that avenue is a mystery to us, and pet store owners etc. too. The lesson here is -

i looked in on him this morning and his toes on his left foot are pretty much gone,, there are none left, and his face seems to be getting all wrinkly and so does his tummy. he also seems to be getting a little darker in colour and his gills arnt looking as nice as they were, i think they may even be getting shorter.

Is it possible to post a pic - I'm not sure what you mean by wrinkly face and stomach. RE feeding, I have heard of people using strips of fish or prawn. My axies adore beef liver and beef heart cut into thin strips. Also, the filter should be running all the time, shouldn't it?

Reeba, can you post pics at all? maybe people could offer more advice then?

haha, I just read that and I thought what? am I blind? thought I didn't see your post. I must of been typing mine when yours went up.

hey every one,, well khalida has passed on, about ten in the morning he rolled onto his back and couldnt get over, so i tipped him the right way and he just stayed there, 2 hours later he was gone..
RIP KHALIDA
