I'd say Triturus but which one is difficult to tell from that photo. I'd guess carnifex. Got any other shots?

check out the gallery. i saw a few pics that looked like it.

looks to me like a crested newt ( triturus )

with only that picture to work with I'd guess T. karelini...

Only this picture a friend had this picture and wanted to know what species it was, so I could find a site on the species. He thought it was a salamander, I said its a newt, but without a site about it I cant explain it to him well.

The great and italian crested can hybridize, so mabye this is a hybrid?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
