Why did you give your axie that name?

I have only had my axie for a little over a week. I have been trying to figure out a good name that can be male or female (since I don't know) and that fit its personality. I was just watching Alice in Wonderland, and boom: Hatter! My axie is a leucistic, and it's reddish/orangey gills remind me of the Mad Hatter's hair and it's white body of his pale skin. So, Hatter! I could always call it Hattie if it's a girl....:p

My two babies are Hooper and Quint. Hooper is leucistic and Quint is melanoid. Can you tell Jaws is my favorite movie? :)

My other half named our Golden Axie 'Axel'. So original..... NOT! I didn't complain too much though, I'm just happy to have him! I seem to have gained more week old larvae from someone who decided they didn't have the time to look after them... We're now watching and waiting to see how they do, and hopefully we'll be keeping at least 4 out of the 32 hatchlings. At the moment we have wildtypes, goldens, albinos and leucistics... I'm going to name my little wildtype 'Dobby' if I get that far (touch wood), my son wants a leucistic called 'Merzon', when I asked him why he said it was a little name for a little thing.... But he's only 4 so I expect that will change to something like 'Sonic' or 'Mario' by the time they are old enough to name!

There's my little babies :)

The little white female is Mia and the big brown dude is Marcel.

I was struggling for a name but then I watched one of my favourite films, Pulp Fiction :D

I literally just named mine a few hours ago! One of them (who I think might be a female) is called 'Little gills' as her gills are a little bit shorter than her tanks mate's. The other one (who I think might be male) is called 'Ned' as before I planned to get axolotls I was originally going to get a Newt and as a child I used to watch a tv show called 'Ned's Newt'. The name just stuck. :proud:

my wildtype is called codex, kinda like pokédex and hence 2 pokemon are based on axies why not :) and this one sure likes battling with me for worms.

i have another but the colours change as its still so small, was all seethrough now it has a yellowish glow to its head and the back of its tail! still thinking of a name for this one :)

my little leucistic, whoms sex is undetirened right now. but i should know in a few weeks! s/he's nearing 5in. anyway the full name is

Poseidon Chomp Chomp Knucklehead Spot Hewitt.

Poseidon- love the name, and god of the sea? trident? Axolotl!
Chomp Chomp- s/he is always eating (even if there isnt food! just chompin away)
Knucklehead- worry's the **** outta me and then turns out to be ok, therefore i yell at him/her for being such a knucklehead.
Spot- s/he has one little spot just above the left eye.
Hewitt- because its my last name and i love my axi like it was my child (i dont have kids yet... FYI)

and my GF has a leucistic axi but hasnt named him/her yet. (we got them at the same time i think shes just uncreative)

mine dont have names.... :( i cant think of anything... so we just refer to them as the axolotls or the yellow one or the brown one.

I've got my heart set on at least two. One will be called Aristotl, and the other Catullus. Catullus was a neoteric poet- very punny. My rabbits are named after medieval theorists, poor things, and a couple of my fish are named after characters in the Cambridge Latin Course. Someone tell me they did that as a kid too? :)

My leucistic is Pinky and my wild type is Podge. In the shop, when I got them, the guy said "wow, it's pinky and perky" and so it kinda stuck with pinky...

Podge is kinda called Sir-podge-a-lot...LOL, he eats a lot and has a very big belly! and pinky is just cute and girly so that's why!

Glad you don't just think I'm bonkers, Mewsie!
A friend said that Aristotl will have to be Aristotelle if female. No way. Aristotl is a perfectly valid name for a strange female thing in a tank.

I chose my names before they arrived, but I decided on Bowie for my leucistic because I think leucistics kind of look like David Bowie. Julio for my Golden after Julio Cortazar (argentinian writer who wrote an amazing story called Axolotl).
Lastly, Sagan for my wild type, because... well... I freaking love Carl Sagan.

aeviette, you mean like caecilius, metella, grumio, quintus, etc???
I think you're AWESOME.

this is an awesome post! I'm loving all the names and reasons behind them!

I have 4 beautiful axolotls (I tend to call them 'lotls for short). The albino is Lotl, as he was the first I got. Then came the black guy with grey spotted belly - Goth is his name! Then the one I waited a long time for, my gorgeous mutant gold 'lotl with 5 legs and 17 extra toes - unimaginatively names Goldie, and finally, after saying we had enough in the tank, we bought a 'green' (wild-type colouring) 'lotl, called Spotl.

When talking to them, the names all tend to rhyme with 'lotl tho - Lotl, Gothl, Goldall, and Spotl.

:D I love you! I've got a Metella, Quintus, Clemens and Grumio.

That is the best idea ever. Like, seriously.
That family is like a staple of my childhood. I was actually trying to explain their "dynamics" to my boyfriend yesterday but he just thought I was weird. I guess it's because he never studied latin haha
I just laughed so loud that my co-worked just peered into my cubicle and gave me a WTF? face.

Those books were a weirdly significant part of my teens. Then I metamorphosed into a medievalist. I've still got the books! I wanted my creatures to reflect something else I love. The rabbits are Boethius and Cassiodorus (Bo and Cassie). There is no social context in which I am not 'the odd one'.

Haha, funny story... we studied Latin at my school 6-8th grade. Then we had to return the books.

My senior year, we happened to have my calc class in a latin classroom one day due to some painting being done, and the books were just laying out on a table. When I left class that day I took one with me. Very sneaky-like :p
I regret nothing!!!
