New icons

Actually I want to hear what Jennifer Macke has to say before I change them again.

How do we feel about the new icons now that we've had them for a few days? They're sort of growing on me (ironic since I made them, eh).

I like what it up. here is why:

1. Non-animated (thankyou)
2.simple and to the point. there is an "on" version and "off" version, new material, no new material.one isbright the other is mutted. makes things fairly obvious.
3.as a square "press this button" feel which can draw a user to "press" the button (especially with an orange colour on green background)

works well for main page. maynot be the worlds monalisa of icons but it has great functionality and works. Please, whatever you do, do not go back to animated icons. That would be a big no-no and you may have to put seizure warnings up if there are all new topics on a visit, like pokemon show seizure warning :p

Not to be a partypooper, but I still don't like them for the reasons stated earlier.

Its grown on me too...but..... I've noticed a few times that sometimes it doesn't tell me theres a new post ( its probably just me!) not that it matters too much a si spend far too much time on here!!

I think this might be a matter of refreshing the cached page in your browser.

Regarding Coen's feelings, I regret any pain the icons are causing you but I would like to hear more disapprovals before I bin these icons.

I wasn't a huge fan of these ones at first but I don't mind them at all anymore. They are (relatively) unobtrusive and clearly tell you when a forum has new posts or not. I personally don't mind the stock icons either, but these do fine for me. I support these icons. :p

The forums Layout is just spot on mate lovlynice job

A personal opinion: I really do not like these ones. The yellow/orange tint seems random (even though it's probably from the C in the Caudata.org logo), and the font is more something I want to see in a newspaper. "NEW! Material" is more information than I need, just a subtle "new" would do, everyone is aware they are visiting a forum that contains old and new posts. I'd say: K.I.S.S! (Keep It Simple, Stupid, the most valuable lesson I had in design classes.)

I don't want to offend anyone but this is my honest argumentation.

First I have to say ^^ is really funny.

But, anyways, to the point.

I really think the animation is uneccescary. We could just have a pretty and related thumbnail next to the name. That could snazz it up.

I personally find them a little too overpowering and large. A smaller more subtle icon would be my preference. I don't think there's a requirement for the word “new”, maybe just an icon that changes colour when something is new – like a small version of the caudata.org newt symbol. Grey for no new posts and green for new posts. Regular users who actively search for new posts will soon work out what to look for –it doesn’t need to be obvious.

That’s my 10 cents (or 5 pence as we have here).

Oooh I like that idea, thanks.

I like them, the animated ones were making my eyes cross (I have enough visual problems as it is thanks :D), or as Bellabelloo states "maybe I'm spending too much of my time here" as well.

Mark's idea sounds good too!

No pain at all John, I really appreciate the attention this is given. I've had my share of critique on the caudata.nl forum too, where the default differences between the old and new icons were TOO subtle, so no-one noticed. I just added a bold "new" text on top of the default icons, which works like a charm.
