Illness/Sickness: Axie eating but not getting fat! help!!

Unless ice literally forms on the tank, they won't be too cold. I have actually had to break the ice on my tanks to drop worms in to my axolotls. Axolotls will do just fine in temperatures down to below 10c. They will DIE if you keep them above 30c. They are NOT tropical animals.

This is why they're not putting on weight. They are starving to death because their metabolism is so high. They are poikelothermic (or 'cold-blooded'). Their body is whatever temperature the surrounding water (and air) is. When it's hot, they need A LOT more food.

You are going to kill them if you continue to keep them this way.

I floated a chunk of icy bottle in there wish they would get fat by now , and also are crickets safe as staple?

You will need to constantly have ice bottles floating in the tank. You will need to replace them before they melt. Best be getting a bunch in the freezer! You'll probably need 10 or more bottles, and need to switch them every 2 hours or more.

They're not putting on weight because you're starving them. Crickets are nutritionally deficient. You've been told repeatedly that earthworms are really the best food.

Crickets aren't a good staple food for axolotls. Their exoskeleton would be too tough for them to digest.

Do you have a garden? You can dig up worms for your axolotls.

A fan would be a good way to help keep the tank cool too

I do but it's treated with fertilizer , and would these be safe?and also im trying to culture nightcrawlers but they are still so few!like 10-20 only! in a ice cream bucket with organic rich soiless mix. Are the earthworms in my garden safe?

What sort of fertilizer is it?

I think you should start off with more worms, especially if you plan to breed and create a sustainable population for your axies

Can you buy axolotl pellets in your country? They look like these

Not their axolotls.

It's brand was "Osmocote" the little yellow balls , would it be safe?

nope axolotls are very rare in pet stores in our country I even tried finding tons of local websites and ask lots of pet shops and none was found. But I do find goldfish pellets or oscar pellets(branded ones) is this ok?

You have failed to mention how cold your room is, you say it is "freezing" but how cold is it?

Not everyone in this forum speaks English as their first language, a lot can get lost in translation.

NO fertilizer is safe. Do NOT use worms from your garden.

If you can find carnivore pellets, those would be adequate. Hikari is a well-known brand. Goldfish pellets are not suitable, but oscar pellets may be.

What is your room temp ? you have been asked several times. We cant help you if you do not answer the questions we ask.

You need carnivore pellets. Goldfish pellets are no good.

Metro Manila , NCR , I floated an ice bottle now they'e floating!

I've just googled the area you live in and it sounds like your climate can make keeping Axolotls very challenging.

Axolotls do not like high temperatures or rapidly changing temperatures. I think that keeping them outside your house is a bad idea. The high day time temperatures will make them stressed.

Is your bedroom 'freezing' because you have air conditioning? If this is the case then you are probably better off keeping the tank in your bedroom as the temperature will be more stable, Axolotls like low temperatures better than high temperatures.

When you say that the temperature is 30 degrees do you mean the temperature of the water in your tank is 30 degrees or do you mean that the temperature outside is 30 degrees? Are you able to tell us the temperature of the water in your tank?

Well done for starting to breed earthworms, they are the best food for Axolotls.

I have found a picture of the pellets people are taling about, they are called 'Hikari Sinking Carnivore Pellets', they are available from several on line sellers.

I hope this isn't my fault, if so I apologise.
English is my first language, but I struggle with writing words.
